The Anti-War Movement Collection is a series of interviews and photographs documenting members of the Mexican American community who were involved with the Chicano Moratorium.

The Chicano Moratorium was a movement of Chicano anti-war activists who were protesting the Vietnam War. The movement’s primary concern was to bring attention to the disproportionate number of Mexican American casualties to percentage of population. The movement identified several underlaying causes such as high unemployment rates, and education inequalities, and sought to bring awareness to these problems. The movement brought awareness through a series of protest marches, with a local march occurring in Houston. The largest march was in Los Angeles and had between 20,000 and 30,000 attendees and ended in violence, with 3 people losing their lives after the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene.
