After college, Cullinan followed her family tradition of actively participating in civic life. She was involved in many volunteer programs and she was a founding member of the Contemporary Arts Museum, Society for Performing Arts, and the Houston Ballet Foundation. In 1950, Cullinan funded the building of the Cullinan Hall of the Museum of Fine Arts. She was a Chairman of the Museum of Fine Arts from 1938 to 1941. Her volunteer efforts and philanthropy extended to other areas of civic life, such as becoming a member of the Boards of Child Guidance Center, the Houston Mental Health Society, and the National Parks Association.
