Anne Mead was friends with John and Dominique de Menil who opened the Chapel on February 20, 1971. She describes the opening program. She explains how Mark Rothko was chosen to create the Chapel paintings. She talks about some of the programs and award events that took place in the Chapel. The Rothko Chapel is open to everyone and can be used without charge for weddings and memorial services. The Chapel provides a spiritual environment that is used by all religions.
