On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was arrested and restrained by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. The incident captured on video showed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck until he was unresponsive, eight minutes and 15 seconds.  His murder led to worldwide protests against police brutality and racism.


The Race and Social Justice Project is a collection of stories and responses to race and social justice topics about inequity, police violence, and racial discrimination and activist movements in Houston and the United States. It captures local experiences of activism and social justice activities that ignited the Houston area following the death of Third Ward native George Floyd.
